Engaging Global Culture through Manga Exhibitions

EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai

Kyoto Seika University operates the Kyoto International Manga Museum in partnership with the city of Kyoto as part of the university’s commitment to manga education, research, and preservation. On the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, the museum will be participating in two different exhibitions detailed below.

Manga Voices for Human Rights: 10 stories told by manga artists

As part of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai’s Co-Creating Cultures for the Future theme week, UN Human Rights and the Kyoto International Manga Museum and Kyoto Seika University International Manga Research Center are collaborating to present an exhibition featuring the work of ten manga artists. Utilizing the unique storytelling power of manga, these ten artists explore different facets of human rights and the universal values that unite humankind.

From Subculture to Railroads and Outer Space: Expanding imaginations toward the culture of the next generation

The Kyoto International Manga Museum will showcase an exhibition of eight works by Takemiya Keiko, former Kyoto Seika University professor and university president, from her manga series To Terra…. These eight works come from Genga’ (Dash), a project that creates finely detailed reproductions of original manga manuscript pages that are nearly indistinguishable from the original. These Genga’ (Dash) pieces are used to aid in the preservation and public exhibition of manga manuscripts.

Concurrent to this exhibition, artists from the museum’s Manga Studio will be present at the venue, offering visitors a chance to see first-hand demonstrations of the manga creation process.
